Credit Conversion
At Macquarie, a full course load consists of 12 Macquarie credits per semester or 24 Macquarie credits per year. Students typically enroll in 4 classes for a total of 16 U.S. semester credit hours. 3 MAC points = 4 U.S. semester credit hours
Lab & Field Trip Fees

Certain classes may have a one-off lab or field trip fee disclosed in the syllabus or during the first meeting of the class. These fees are not included in your 91制片厂 program fee. Here鈥檚 what to expect at Macquarie University:
- Registration takes place online in the U.S. four to six weeks prior to the program start date and are finalized after the first week of classes.
- Common to have a large lecture class complemented by a smaller tutorial/lab.听Tutorials make up two thirds of class work, and participation and attendance are required.
- More emphasis on independent learning.听More self-directed learning outside of class. Classes usually require 90 minutes to two hours of student effort per credit point per week.
- The university follows strict policies and deadlines.
- Grades are often based on a single final exam or final paper, or on just a few assignments. Final exams are typically 30鈥�70 percent of total grade.
- Grade inflation and curving is uncommon; fewer students get exceptional grades.
- Strong focus on critical analysis with supporting resources documented.
- Less personal access to professors. Instead, it鈥檚 common to connect with junior faculty members.
- Full access to the university鈥檚 robust academic support system and resources. 91制片厂 local staff are also available for individual help.
- Students cannot audit courses or enroll in more than four classes.

- All classes will be submitted to the host institution for review and approval based on the provided transcript. It is the student鈥檚 responsibility to ensure the classes they enroll in are approved to transfer back to their home institution once completed.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years of age. Students under 18 may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
- You must be currently attending or recently graduated from a U.S. or Canadian community college, technical college, two-year college, four-year college, or four-year university.
- You must have completed at least one (1) full-time year of study at your home institution before the beginning of the term.
- Eligibility requirements can vary among host institutions. Please ask your 91制片厂 Enrollment Counselor for specific information.
Recommendation Letter
Not required.
TRANSCRIPT
Upon completion of your program, 91制片厂 will send an official Butler University transcript to your home university with your coursework converted to the U.S. semester credit hour system. You will also have access to an unofficial transcript in your 91制片厂 Student Portal. The transcript reflects classes taken, credits attempted, and grades earned during your term abroad. This service is included in your study abroad program at no additional cost. See our听Transcripts听page for more information.

Activities and excursions are designed to pull you into the communities you visit and encourage cultural connections of every kind. There鈥檚 no extra fee to participate in these optional outings鈥攅verything is included in your program fee.
Below are a selection of activities and excursions from previous terms; options may vary for your program. Due to the seasonal nature of many of program activities, we cannot guarantee a specific activity or excursion will be available in a given term or program.

- Indigenous Australians Cultural Education:听Learn about the religious, social, and cultural practices of Australia鈥檚 First Nations People from award-winning Indigenous Australian educators. Includes opportunity for questions and discussion.
- The Rocks Walking Tour:听Explore Sydney鈥檚 iconic district, The Rocks, site of the convict settlement in 1788. Learn about its role in national political and social change, the notorious Rocks Gang, the Rum Rebellion, and more.
- Sydney Opera House Show:听Did you know that if all the sails of the Opera House were combined, they would create a perfect sphere? Visit the structure that transformed Australia鈥檚 cultural image鈥攏amed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007鈥攆or a live show.
- Taronga Zoo:听Travel by ferry to meet and learn about more than 350 species, including kangaroos, koalas, and more of Australia鈥檚 distinctive wildlife. Don鈥檛 miss the free flight bird show, where native birds performing incredible stunts with Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge as their backdrop.
- Coogee-Bondi Walking Tour:听Take in stunning ocean views as you walk the paved path from Coogee to Bondi, tracing shoreline cliffs and beaches. During late October and early November, you might also catch Sculpture by the Sea, Australia鈥檚 largest annual outdoor sculpture installation.
- Bike Tour of Sydney:听The perfect way to get oriented and see some Sydney鈥檚 most famous sites. Includes riding across iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge.
- Blue Mountains Visit:听An important historical site, the Blue Mountains are a rugged and mountainous region west of Sydney. Soak up dramatic scenery and discover an immense range of flora and fauna, including the famous lyrebird, known to mimic the sound of car alarms, chainsaws, camera shutters, and more.
- Gerroa Surf Day Trip: Experience the stunning South Coast of NSW with a day trip to Gerroa, renowned for its perfect surf conditions and breathtaking coastal views. Highlights include surf lessons, relaxing on the beach, and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
- Kangaroo Valley Day Trip: This full-day excursion takes you to the picturesque Kangaroo Valley, where you鈥檒l have the opportunity to kayak along tranquil waters and spot fascinating wildlife, including wombats, wallabies, water dragons, and potentially echidnas and platypuses. A perfect day to connect with nature and experience the best of Australia鈥檚 wildlife.

- Location: Macquarie Park, a suburb of Sydney.听
- Commute: A 10-minute walk from campus.听听听
- Living space: Furnished townhouses for five co-ed students. Each student has their own bedroom and private bathroom. Complete bedding and towel set provided. Lounge area and kitchen with oven, refrigerator, microwave. Kitchen ware basics provided.听
- Meals: No meal plan. Students purchase meals out or prepare their own meals in their apartment or in the large, shared industrial kitchen. Apartment mates often tell us meals are a fun, social part of the day.听
- Other details: Internet included. On-site laundry facilities. Resident advisors on staff. Social events and activities. Common spaces with TV, games, study areas, and more.听听
- Nearby: Macquarie Shopping Center, with convenient shops, restaurants, and cafes. Sydney is a 30-minute ride from Macquarie University Train Station.听听
